USHA KIRAN PALACE, Gwalior
Built originally as a palace for the royal visit of the King and Queen of England, the Welcomgroup Usha Kiran Palace is now a leading member of the Heritage Hotels of India. The late Maharaja Jiwajirao Scindia resided here during his lifetime.
The regal architecture of the palace hotel is resplendent with stone carvings and filigree work. The hotel's sprawling lawns, ensconced by fruit and flowering trees were landscaped by the world famed horticulturist, Robinson. A central pond with ornamental bridges and a fountain lit by colourful lights, add to the ambience for a royal retreat. Inside the reception area, the traveller is enthralled by the exquisite, hand-painted and colourful murals. Stroll inward, and a glimpse of the billiards room transports you to a bygone era. Such is the aura of this antique room, that one can almost feel the presence of the Maharaja's erstwhile guests as they indulge in their royal pastime.
Facilities available: The Usha Kiran Palace offers you a choice of 30 air conditioned rooms and suites, each reflecting the majestic tastes of the Mahajara who built them and equipped with the facilities and amenities you would expect from a leisure resort. The ornate rooms are adorned with Art-Deco furniture. The French mosaic floors provide a cheerful counter point. As you lie back and gaze upward, the ceilings come to view, with panels of floral motifs in relief. These giant size rooms with spacious baths, ante-rooms, and old world charm, are reminiscent of the gracious life-styles of the Maharajas. Leisure facilities are as lavish as the surrounding gardens.
